Thierry Duval has a realistic painting, but a romantic mood for a painting with the academicism of the great masters. He works in photo studio for paintings that require a month of work. Light is its guiding thread, the sweetness of the early morning on the Quai des Orfèvres, that - violent - backlighting and early afternoon. He painted in particular Venice and of course Paris.

While preparing the competition for decorative arts, Thierry Duval discovers the work of Delacroix, from which comes his passion for watercolor. From then on, he will never stop working on his technique, until he gets an unusual rendering, an unusual force in the colors and the lights, and a drawing of a great precision, which gives to his work a realism uncommon.
Throughout the pages we admire the beauty of the banks of the Seine in the early morning, the gleaming roofs in the rain, the light filtering under the bridges, the markets, the cafés, the booksellers, like so many enchanted parentheses, sweet and dreamlike. Under the banner of Thierry Duval, Paris la belle is honoring its status as the most romantic city in the world.
My work is the fruit of a clever mix between hyperrealism and poetry of the place represented. I hope to be a sensitive and precise observer of nature and the city, attentive to account for the slightest variations of light. My watercolors of urban scenes restore the historical beauties of Paris or Venice, but also their unusual and mysterious sides.
The views of Paris allow me to represent atmospheric perspectives, hazy horizons, silhouettes of buildings that stand out in the backlight. On the other hand, Venice offers me, with its canals, gaps of bright light that contrast with the first highly shaded planes. In both cases, it is the background, which is the furthest in the image, that will bring poetry and project the viewer inside the work itself.
